On October 1-2, 2020, the Ministry of Information and Communications of Vietnam chaired the online ASEAN Conference on Reducing International Mobile Roaming Charges in ASEAN. The conference was attended by 10 telecommunications management agencies, network operators, telecommunications and IT companies from 10 ASEAN countries and experts from the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and the European Union (EU).

The conference is the first forum between telecommunications regulators and network service providers in ASEAN to dialogue and discuss the goal of reducing international roaming charges in the ASEAN region.
At the conference, representatives of ASEAN member countries updated and shared policies to promote healthy competition among network operators, as well as policies to protect users from “bill shock”, experiences, typical lessons and discussed the ITU’s global roaming incentive programs (Let’s roam the world) and the EU’s single roaming rate (Roam like Home) and solutions towards the goal of reducing international roaming rates in the ASEAN region.
The conference was held online in the context of the Covid19 pandemic. International mobile roaming experts from ASEAN member countries, ITU, and EU discussed and exchanged mobile roaming rate policies with the goal of reducing rates and increasing competitiveness.
